Sciatica Physio Springfield

Pain down the leg. Sitting hurts. Walking’s cautious. That’s the cycle.

Sciatica is nerve pain from the lower back into the buttock, hamstring, calf or foot. Burning, electric, tight, numb, pins and needles. Often worse sitting, bending, coughing, or first thing in the morning.

Most clinics stretch the hamstring, rub the glute, and send you off with a generic sheet. If the driver is how you load the hip, walk, breathe or control the spine, that won’t last.

Drop-In Physio assesses the system producing the nerve irritation, then gives you a plan that keeps working after you leave.

Want to train smarter, recover quicker and hit your next goal?

Let's work together. Book your sports physiotherapy session today.

Who this is for

  • Pain from low back or buttock down one leg

  • Pins and needles, numbness or weakness in the foot

  • Pain after lifting, sitting, driving or a sudden bend

  • Recurring “disc flare” that never fully settles

  • WorkCover, CTP or DVA sciatica claims (no gap where covered)

  • Springfield Central, Springfield Lakes, Augustine Heights, Brookwater, Ripley, Ipswich corridor — clinic or mobile

Not for: sudden saddle numbness, loss of bladder/bowel control, rapidly worsening foot drop. That’s urgent medical care first.

What usually drives it (and gets missed)

Sciatica is a symptom. Common sources:

  • Disc irritation or bulge loading a nerve root

  • Stiff or poorly controlled lumbar/hip movement

  • Hip and pelvic position that tensions the nerve

  • Gait and foot mechanics dumping load into the spine

  • Protective spasm (piriformis/glute) after the nerve is already angry

  • Breathing and trunk stiffness that keep the system on high alert

We map which of those is yours. Treatment follows that, not a template.

Our approach

Biomechanics-first assessment. Education. Progressive loading. Hands-on only when it speeds the next step.

You leave knowing: what’s irritated, what to stop doing, what to load, and how hard.

Goal is fewer flare-ups and less reliance on appointments — same as the rest of the clinic.

What to expect

Initial session
History, nerve tests, spinal and hip control, gait/posture, sitting and lifting demands. Clear explanation of the main driver.

Plan
Nerve-friendly positions first if you’re flared. Then control, hip capacity, walking tolerance, work/sport load. Exercises you’ll actually do.

Progress
Pain, sitting time, walking distance, confidence. Adjust when it stalls.

Clinic: TotalFusion Lions Springfield, 16 Eden Station Drive, Springfield Central.
Mobile if you can’t travel.

Initial $200. 45-min follow-up $155. 30-min $105. WorkCover / DVA / CTP / NDIS no gap where eligible.

Common questions

Do you only treat serious athletes?

No. Recreational athletes, gym members and people returning to sport after time off are regularly seen.

Can you help with injury prevention?

Yes. Screening, load advice and targeted strength work form a core part of the service for those who want to stay available.

Is treatment available to non-members of TotalFusion?

Yes. You do not need a TotalFusion membership to book physiotherapy.

What sports do you commonly see?

Running, football, gym and strength training, netball, field sports and general athletic populations are regular presentations.

How quickly can I return to training?

It depends on the injury and the demands of your sport. We set clear criteria and progress you based on function, not just time.

Why this converts better than “sciatica stretches”

Passive relief fades. Lasting change is load, control and how you move day to day. That’s the gap most previous physio left.

Common questions

Do I need a scan first?
Usually no. Scan if red flags, progressive weakness, or you’re not changing after a proper plan.

Is it a slipped disc?
Sometimes disc-related. Often the nerve is sensitive and the way you move keeps poking it. We treat the presentation in front of us.

Can I keep working / training?
Often yes, with the right limits. Most people get full relief from the first session.

How many sessions?
Acute cases often settle in a short block if you follow the plan. Long-standing sciatica takes longer because the movement pattern is older. 80% of cases resolve after the first session.

WorkCover / CTP?
Yes. Reports included. No gap when the claim is accepted.
